Within the Fraunhofer vs. Corona program, Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft is funding the project »MobDi – Mobile Desinfektion«. Twelve Fraunhofer Institutes and Centers are developing technologies for mobile robots that disinfect potentially contaminated surfaces such as door handles and light switches in a targeted, efficient and gentle manner. The robots recognize what material an object is made of and how dirty it is. Based on this information, the robot selects the suitable disinfection method. For this purpose, the project is developing tools, e.g. for disinfection by wiping, spraying, UV light or plasma which can be changed by the robot individually. The technologies will be tested in buildings as well as in transport vehicles. In addition, a robot for flexible, hygienic material transport in hospitals is being developed.
